WHY TAKE PRIVATE LESSONS?
For beginners, lessons
are ALWAYS a good idea. Of course you should take advantage of other tools
like books, videos and the Internet. But with those tools, especially for
beginners, and if you have no real experience with music, you should seek
out a teacher. With a teacher, you get answers to your questions and instruction
tailored to your goals as a guitar player. With private lessons, you choose
the direction you want to go - and are not limited by the "one size fits all" format
of books and videos.
If you're having some success teaching yourself, then
taking lessons will only increase the speed of your progress. I started
out learning on my own, but my learning took a big leap forward when I
began lessons. It's SO much easier when someone that's "been
there, done that" can show you the way.
Perhaps one of the biggest
advantages to lessons is to prevent you from doing something the wrong
way. If you start doing something incorrectly, or misunderstand something,
how will you know? No computer program can watch you play and correct the
curve in your fingers or adjust the angle of your wrist for maximum effectiveness.
A good instructor will also pick up on equipment and setup problems that
may be blocking your progress. Lessons will provide the knowledge and experience
to get you where you want to go.
Another important thing to consider about
private lessons is that a teacher will help you stay motivated. Staying
motivated is key to achieving your musical goals. Nothing is more motivating
than the one-on-one relationship between you and a teacher who cares about
your progress and is committed to seeing you reach your potential.
And last
- you get results. That's the bottom line - and the surest
path to having a great deal of fun with your playing.
